Fandom Dad, Farewell
Feb. 4th, 2019 09:28 pmI want you to know about my dad because he's your dad too, and he believes in you, in your writing, your art, your passion for fandom. No matter what part you play in fandom, small or large, he thinks the world of you.
My dad passed away this afternoon at 1:37 pm CST.
He'd been in assisted living/nursing care for almost two years. He wasn't ill, no infections, no pneumonia, just tired and sleeping a lot. These past two weeks or so, he didn't want to eat.
Today, he slipped away in his sleep, a quiet end to a loud, fun, adventurous life.
If you know me, if you knew my dad or of him, if you would like to honor him, adopt a cat. Or a dog. Or give, if you can, to your local shelter. He loved animals, grew up on a farm, thought cows were both smart and tasty, and he cried when my step-mom's last cat died.
Dad was known far and wide as Buster, and like Indiana Jones, he was named after the dog.
I love you, Dad. Good journeys.
